Geisha

This is the start of the custom order I am doing for a young student where I work. She loves bags and loves anything oriental. She's a girl after my own heart. It should be completed by the end of the week. I'm just not sure at the moment if the strap will be long enough so some adjustments must be made. I am pretty happy with the progress so far. It doesn't take long to go together either, so I'm seeing the potential to make more up rather quickly to go into the store. I just need to go buy some more interfacing. I think I'll stop there after the play today, so TTFN, I'm off to GEVA to see Cabaret. (yay!)

Waverly Fabric Samples

The lady we met last weekend who sold us the miscellaneous sewing supplies also had yards of Waverly Sample Fabrics. It appears that her husband was a salesman, and these were some of his samples. We didn't have any extra money with us at the time, but she kindly held them for us, until we could get back there again this week to pick out some. Of course at that point we didn't really know what she had, but we love fabric, and of course can always use it to teach. Little did we realize when we got there, just what she had. I was in heaven. By the time it was all done we had 50 pieces of samples, 30 for me, 20 for mom. Most of them are about a yard and a half long and 54" wide. I already have plans for a majority of them. Here are some of my favorites for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Half the Dress Done

Well I'm getting there. I have the top half of the dress I've been trying to make put together. The fabric is from Craft Bits and Pieces in Fairport, NY. Thank goodness it's a small size because I had just enough of the fabric, for the top and the skirt. As you can tell it's a halter top type dress,it will have a zipper in the back of the skirt, and it ties at the back of the neck. My goal is to attach the skirt and have it done by the end of the week. I'm in the process of combining two patterns so we'll see how it works out, but for now, so far so good. Any one know a young girl who wears a size 12?
After this it's back to all the bags I have cut out. I have three more of those, and a custom order messenger bag to work on. Busy busy.

Just because I can...I think

Mum and I met a lovely lady this weekend through Craigslist. She was selling a large quantity of sewing items and she was just a pleasure to talk to. One of the items we came home with was a large box of vintage patterns. None of them were even close to my size, but I love vintage patterns. There were two in particular that really spoke to me simply because everytime I see someone wearing that style of dress, say somewhere like on tv, I'm trying to figure out how it goes together. So now the mystery is solved. I can read the pattern and find out. Well long story short, I decided I had to try to put it together, but of course I have to be even more creative and put a different style skirt on it. I'll post pictures of the process soon. It's my first attempt in a long time to make an "adult size"(a small skinny adult size)piece of clothing, so it's a slow go, but I'm not entirely discouraged with the progress so far. I guess I'll have to find someone it will fit, so it may eventually go on the store (if it comes out ok) because there's no way it will fit anyone I know.
