It's been a very long two weeks. I came down with what I thought was a knock down case of the flu. I had a fever for almost four days, no appetite, a cough, exhaustion...it was no fun. So anyway after subjecting myself to a second week of miserable I went (yes finally) to the doctor, only to discover that what I had/have is a sinus infection. That would explain the incredibly painful headaches I would get in my sleep. So now I'm on an antibiotic, and the doctor assures me that I'm not dying (although for a moment or two there it really felt like it).
So anyway, on to some fun news. This Saturday we are trying to get to Buffalo again for my sister's scrapbook swap. I'm taking two of my finished bags to try to sell. I went last night to pick up a basting gun from Joann etc. so I could attach my tags and make them look more professional. It worked great and was fun too. I can't wait to do all of my other items now. My little business is starting to look more professional, Yay! Who knew all it would take was a design program, a scallop punch and a basting gun. Fun fun. Look out world!
Anyways all, have a great weekend.

Still waiting for Spring

It's funny how every Sunday evening I think, "Wow, just where did the weekend go?". If it weren't for the pictures I take of the things I actually do accomplish on the weekends, I would think I had completely wasted the time. The nice thing is that despite the snow fall we had this morning, the sun actually made an appearance this weekend, which was awesome. I'm still thrown off however by the fact that next Sunday is already Easter. It's two weeks early. At any rate I finally made a point of sitting down and working on the Easter cards for my niece and nephews. Originally the idea was to lace up the cards and send them like post cards through the mail, but there's a candy surprise inside and they rattle. In the day and age of scary things going through the mail, I don't want to freak out my sisters mailman anymore than I have in the past. I still like how they came out, and they were simple to do. They were just what this winter weary crafter needed to brighten the day.

I also got a new toy in the mail this week. I ordered this round scallop punch from my sister who sells scrapbook supplies. We ended up making a deal where she would pay for it in trade for me sewing all the little round badges onto my nieces girl scout sash. I think she got the better end of the bargain...lol...but the sash is done. As soon as it was I went right off to playing with it. I bought it to make tags for all of my finished creations. They will serve as price tags as well. I like how they came out, and can't wait to get the tagger from Joann etc, with my coupon, so I can start getting things organized for the sale next year.

And last but not least the dress is done! It came out great! I ended up piecing two different patterns together but just look how cute it came out! I realized when the dress was completely finished just how environmentally friendly it is, which couldn't please me more. From start to finish the dress has been made from recycled and reclaimed items. The fabric, the zipper, the thread, and even the patterns I used were all reclaimed. The fabric was from craft bits someone donated, the zipper was a new one found in a bag from the thrift store and was from the 1970's, the thread was donated to craft bits and cost .25 cents, and even the patterns were from 1970 and recieved from a local freecyler who was getting rid of them. If everyone took the time to use what we already had instead of throwing things out and just going to get more, the environment would be so much happier. Now if I only knew a "tween" it would fit, I'd be all set! Maybe I'll just have to put it in my store. It won't fit me, but I loved making it anyway. Challenge accomplished!

Spring Ahead?

So where is this spring I've heard so much about, and remember so fondly? It's starting to feel like it will never get here, but I suppose I should stay positive right? We were supposed to go to Buffalo this weekend for a scapbook crop that my sister was hosting,I even took a vacation day from work on Friday to get stuff ready for it, but as you can see from the photo above we had a lovely winter storm blow through. It was fortunate that my sisters event has been postponed until later at the end of the month, because we just would not have been able to drive there in such severe weather. At any rate the picture above is the after effects of shoveling three times since Saturday. I'd say we had two feet easy when it was all done. We still have to do the cars, but that's a job for a little bit later. Right now it's all about staying warm and having a lovely cup of hot coffee.

At any rate we had some time on Friday morning before the storm hit to run some errands. We went out to Craftbits in Fairport to drop off some donations, and on the way back into the city I had plans to see a girl who was selling her sewing machine on Craiglist. My sewing machine recently decided it was not going to behave and I've been searching for a new one, but I'm not loving any of the new models out there and the ones I have liked are well out of my price range. So I was very excited when for $40.00 I got a decent used in great condition singer sewing machine. It has more stitches than mine did and even does button holes..yay! So since the weather was horrible it was a weekend of staying home and working on some unfinished sewing projects. The picture above is an apron made from a piece of the waverly fabric I picked up from another lady on Craigslist a few weeks ago. I just love it, and plan to list it in my shop soon.

I even managed to finish up this hat and scraf set that I started last weekend. I love how it came out, and plan on doing more matchig sets soon. I love the play of colors with the pink white and yellow. Simple and fresh, dressy but casual too. This will be going in my store, but was primarily made for the show I'm doing at work next November. Well, sorry this is so long. It's been a long weekend and we have sewing students coming in at 1:00 today, so it's off to the sewing room to get some more things done before they get here. Chao!

Another Etsy Love

I am in love with these little birds from the Yumi Yumi Shop. I'm picturing potential birthday presents here....hmmm. Super Pretty! After another snow & ice barrage last night, and this morning I am so ready to see flowers and birds and sunshine. Of course it doesn't help that two days ago we had bright, sunny, 65 degree weather, and everything melted. There's nothing stranger than being outside chipping your car out of ice a half inch thick, while big, fat, wet, snowflakes fall, as the birds are chirping their little hearts out. It's sort of surreal. I think even they are ready to be done with it all now. COME ON SPRING!!!
